It's winter around the country. Most of the US is wet and cold keeping you inside on the trainer. Not here in Southern California however. Winter to us means only cooler temps and the seldom chance of rain. That rain only makes the trails better.

The trails that are local to Laguna Beach are what we call El Moro (North side of 133/Laguna Canyon) and Aliso Woods (South side of 133/Laguna Canyon). Laguna Coast Wilderness Park’s 7,000 acres are part of the South Coast Wilderness area, comprised of Aliso and Wood Canyons Wilderness Park, Crystal Cove State Park, The City of Irvine Open Space, and Laguna Coast Wilderness Park (totaling almost 20,000 acres). http://www.ocparks.com/lagunacoast/

The trails are a mix of high and low fire roads. Single track connect trail to trail. The park offers a lot of elevation change allowing for spectacular views of the Laguna Coast line, Catalina Island, Saddleback Mountains to the East, and of course the Pacific Ocean. Its home to some famous downhill trails for the all mountain, big hit riders. The endless miles of trails offer terrain to riders of all type and various experience levels. I trained for the Leadville 100 mile mountain bike race only in these trails. I would ride 10,000+ feet of climbing and 5 hours on the bike and not riding the same trail twice. There are plenty of nature centers along the way with restrooms and water to re-fuel. It's amazing!!!

The Coastal Sage Scrub community covers hilltops and slopes, along with patches of Native Valley Grassland and Maritime Chaparral. In the canyons visitors can find riparian habitats lined by Willow, Oak, and Sycamore trees. After a plentiful winter rain, the ephemeral streams spring to life. In the summer, you can easily pass through the seasonally dry creek beds.

These trails are preserved and used by many. You can hike, mountain bike, run trails, or ride horseback through miles of beautiful Orange County natural lands. Artists, photographers and writers find plentiful inspiration on the trails. Rent top notch mountain bikes from Santa Cruz, Ibis, and Specialized from us at SD Endurance Sports.
